We hosted a S-211 (Portable Pumps and Water Use) course over this past weekend; balancing a rainy Saturday spent in the classroom crunching numbers with a beautiful Sunday putting the lessons to practice in the field. Attendees gained enhanced knowledge of various types of portable pumps, pumping techniques and mathematical calculations to effectively deliver water to where it is needed, as well as receiving certifications to advance their individual qualification levels.
This was the latest in a series of trainings hosted by BVFD, with support from The University of California Cooperative Extension and the Humboldt County Prescribed Burn Association with grant funding through CalFire, offered to volunteer firefighters as well as prescribed and cultural burn crew members to improve fire safety in southern Humboldt. Special thanks to Shelter Cove Fire Department and Telegraph Ridge Volunteer Fire for helping to organize and conduct this training! Also, thank you to the folks who brought their pumps in and everyone who choose to spend their weekend with us here in Briceland. Hope to see you again at the next one!
