At our May 18 Annual General Membership Meeting, Chief Jim Fulton stepped down and Aurora Studebaker was voted in as the next Briceland Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief. Jim served as Chief from 1981-1999 and stepped up again from 2015-2021 after the sudden passing of Chief Tim Olsen. We are all grateful for Chief Fulton’s many years of service, leadership, and enduring dedication to the fire department and community. Jim will continue to assist the Department with duty officer coverage and other duties as needed. Aurora has been with BVFD for 15 years and moves up from Operations’ Chief to Fire Chief. Briceland VFD is fortunate to have the fire crew and community supporters that keep us strong. Thank you everyone who attended.
It is with a heavy heart that we share the loss of fire apparatus engineer Tao Ryce. Tao passed away, suddenly, on March 23rd, 2021. Tao was a dedicated member of the fire department as well as an amazing father, husband, friend and community member. He lived his life with great intention and focus and truly embodied his name. Tao (in Chinese philosophy) the absolute principle underlying the universe, combining within itself the principles of yin and yang and signifying the way, or code of behavior, that is in harmony with the natural order. The Southern Humboldt community is hit hard by this loss and will miss Tao so much! Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts as we navigate through this difficult time.
The Briceland Fire Protection District has a vacancy on their board. District residents interested in serving a four-year term should contact liz.bfpd@gmail.com by December 4.
The next meeting of the District Board will be January 20, 2021 at 5:30 pm either at Beginnings Octagon or via Zoom. Confirmation and Zoom instructions will be posted closer to the date.
