As wildfire activity continues to increase across California, local government fire departments have been called to provide assistance to help maintain emergency response coverage while CalFire Humboldt-Del Norte Unit resources have been deployed to support the response to large incidents throughout the state.
Briceland VFD answered that call, joining Fortuna VFD, Rio Dell VFD and Redway Fire in Station coverage. Engine 5416 was assigned to staff the Garberville Cal-Fire Station beginning July 18 before relocating to the Weott Station on July 20.
During this assignment, Engine 5416 has already responded to numerous emergency incidents, including the Burr Fire east of Bridgeville and a structure fire in the area of Eel Rock on July 19th, the Woods Fire north of Redway on July 20th, and the Huckleberry Fire in Whitethorn on July 21st, as well as multiple medical aid calls. Several of these incidents were also supported by an additional response by our Water Tender 5466.
These station coverage assignments help ensure our local communities continue to receive timely emergency response while CalFire crews support wildfire suppression efforts across California. We appreciate the dedication and cooperation of all agencies working together to keep our communities safe.
