Early Wednesday morning, July 16th, Humboldt County deployed five fire engines and a command vehicle to assist with firefighting efforts in Shasta County. BVFD Engine 5436 responded alongside our long-standing partners from Shelter Cove Fire Department and Arcata Fire. We’re also proud to be working with our Southern Humboldt neighbors from Salmon Creek Fire Protection District , Telegraph Ridge Volunteer Fire, and Redway Fire Protection District participating in their first out-of-county assignment.
Strike Team XHU 2075C was led by Arcata Fire Assistant Chief W. Peabody, with Briceland’s Chief 5400 serving as a trainee on this deployment. After a one week assignment on the Green Fire, our team was released and we returned home, ready for the next one!
Assignments like these provide valuable large incident experience and much-needed revenue for our rural fire departments, while allowing us to support communities facing active wildfire threats.
